The vendor is required to provide for successful school crossing guard services at specific locations throughout the city.
- The service provider shall also have substitute guards immediately available if a regular crossing guard calls out sick.
- Positions to the city's existing guards and match their existing pay- $24.75 for crossing guard i; $25.9875 for crossing guard ii; $27.2869 for crossing guard iii; $28.6512 for lead crossing guard.
- All crossing guards must pass a valid background check, verifying there are no criminal records that would preclude their ability to work with children.
- Service provider shall require that all employees working under this contract as school crossing guards must report any criminal charges brought against them immediately as they may occur.
- The service provider shall also provide crossing guards with a uniform approved by the city that includes a shirt, hat, coat, and raincoat.
- All shirts and coats must display the company name and employee name.
- The service provider shall ensure that all crossing guards carry photo identification while on duty.
- ensure that adequate employees are available for the backup of any crossing guard in case of absenteeism.
- Each backup shall be fully trained and familiar with the specific crossing location.
- The use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, e-cigarettes, listening to or using a multimedia device, including but not limited to an iPod, mp3 player, portable radio, headset, or cell phone, is prohibited while providing school crossing guard services.
- Using a communication device for purposes other than emergencies or official business related to this contract is prohibited.
- Each school crossing guard and supervisor shall work two shifts per day, which are generally from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., but vary based on school location with some locations longer in duration, for a total of 2-3 hours per day, about five hundred forty (540) hours annually, over an estimated one hundred eighty (180 days) for the regular school year.
- Any additional hours needed should be pre-approved by the city’s program manager or designee.
- All services for the first year must be initiated on the first day of school in January 2026, and thereafter at the start of the school year, which is typically in august, subject to schedule confirmation with the city.
