The vendor required to provide while on duty, guards are representatives of the district and are expected to perform their duties with a high degree of professionalism.
- The guards should consider library patrons and staff members as their customers.
- The guards should treat everyone consistently, fairly, and with respect.
- Guards shall refrain from standing near or behind public service points unless requested by the district contact person or manager on duty.
- Guards should also refrain from engaging patrons and staff in lengthy conversations of a social nature or conducting their own personal business in public areas.
- Guards are expected to balance approachability with authority, make general observations at an appreciable distance from service points to maintain patron privacy, maintain composure, and employ de-escalation techniques when addressing confrontational situations, and enforce the rules and policies by first educating patrons.
- Required skills
• Be mentally alert and capable of making decisions in accordance with the district post orders, rules, regulations, and policies.
• Be able to observe behaviors, record, and report details thoroughly and accurately according to the requirements of the district.
• Be able to remain in a standing or sitting position for extended periods of time and be able to travel on foot across rough, uneven surfaces.
• Be computer literate, able to read, interpret, and implement written instructions and post orders, understand, and follow oral instructions, and act in accordance with specialized training and requirements.
• Be physically capable of performing foot patrols every fifteen minutes and remain vigilant and active while on duty.
• Maintain the level of physical fitness necessary to climb stairs and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Be fluent in english and able to communicate with the public in person or by telephone or smartphone.
• Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Required dress and equipment
• Guards should be unarmed and carry restraints and pepper spray.
• The guards to wear business casual attire with the company logo displayed so the guards are recognizable as security.
• One guard per shift shall carry a company provided cell phone.
• The cell phone will be carried by the lead guard when they are on duty.
• Provide each guard with a walkie talkie radio so that they can respond to staff requests and communicate with each other.
- Daily duty schedule
• Guard(s) scheduled for the opening shift shall arrive 15 minutes prior to the opening.
• Guard(s) scheduled for the closing shift shall remain on-site to complete closing and securing the facility up to 30 minutes after closing.
• Guard(s) will perform interior and exterior building patrols every hour per shift as assigned by the district.
