The Vendor is required to provide on-site psychiatric consulting services assess mental health cases, review medical information, advice on optimal treatment and return to work planning and provide written medical assessment, opinion and recommendations for each assigned case.
- File reviews and medical opinions:
• Case file review including history:
• Treating provider reports and consultations.
• Specialist psychiatric opinions.
• Independent medical examinations (IMES).
• Preplacement medical assessments including commercial driving.
• Substance use professional (sap) assessments.
• Fitness-for-duty or at-work health assessments.
- The consultant shall provide medical opinions on:
• Cognitive, psychological, and emotional functional limitations.
• Ability to perform essential duties (including safety-sensitive and commercial driving roles).
• Fitness for duty and suitability for modified, transitional, or alternative work.
• Readiness for return to work (full or graduated).
• Temporary vs. permanent mental-health-related restrictions.
• Suitability of treatment.
• Maximum medical recovery.
• Prognosis and anticipated recovery trajectory.
• Any additional medical opinions reasonably required to support claim adjudication or accommodation planning.
- The consultant supports complex claims as follows:
• Prolonged or medically complex STD/LTD cases.
• Claims involving conflicting medical opinions.
• Claims where recovery appears delayed or atypical.
• Recurring or relapsed absences related to mental health.
• Recommending optimal treatment options.
• Support in problem solving medical barriers.
- The consultant shall support early, safe, and sustainable return to work, including:
• Advising on mental-health-appropriate return to work plan.
• Assessing readiness to resume duties (modified or full duties).
• Recommending accommodation parameters based on mental functioning.
• Supporting decisions around permanent restrictions, where applicable.
- Advisory services:
• Medical expertise, advice and guidance in accordance with current evidence based research in the development of protocols, directives, initiatives, training materials, and corporate policies and procedures as they apply to mental health, and corporate wellness.
• Support and guidance on an as required basis to work location managers and employees to manage mental health issues in the workplace.
• Support and advice in development and refinement of mental-health-related policies and procedures
• Advice and direction on health issues to develop proactive health awareness and wellness campaigns.
• Application of best practices in workplace mental health disability management.
• Guidance on emerging psychiatric standards and trends that may impact claims management.
