The vendor required to provide prime consultant firm to provide full design services for the extended education 160 corridor’s development into an informal learning space.
- Requirement:
• Engagement with the faculty representatives as provided at project start-up
• Provide three (3) schematic design layouts of the proposed informal learning space.
• Suggested options should aim to provide flexible study space that allows for collaboration and small meetings between students.
• Review space capacity, working styles and furniture types.
• Careful consideration of existing corridor parameters.
• Review where these new informal learning space sections will be best situated so as not to negatively impact adjacent circulation routes, egress pathways, etc.
• Review and provide new electrical infrastructure where required to best serve the new informal Learning space strategy.
• Infrastructure should allow users to have convenient access to power and USB for charging their devices.
• Flooring replacement.
• Redesign of existing ceiling.
• Existing wood slats to be demolished, have mechanical diffusers integrated into them.
• Existing mechanical ducting and diffusers to be replaced.
• Pneumatic controls to be replaced with new digital controllers for mixing boxes, new valve actuators, and thermostats.
• All wiring back to existing digital controls panel in the building.
• Replacement of existing lighting and controls following current standards and integrating into the overall design of the ceiling system.
• Asbestos abatement
• Acoustic considerations: acoustic wall application and ceiling treatment to be considered strategically to enhance the acoustic experience of the space.
• New furniture and student locker:
o New fixed furniture and student lockers to be included in tender package.
o Procure all loose furniture (through po) and therefore will not need be included within the construction contract.
o Provide layouts that address functional work requirements, acoustics, adjustability and flexibility, easy use by individuals with a wide range of abilities.
o Fixed furniture: investigate and present the available options for consideration by the end users that meet or exceed the required student capacity.
o Finish and material selection, coordination into drawings and specifications and review of associated shop drawings is to be included within the scope of basic services.
o Loose furniture: investigate and present available options for consideration by the end users.
o Loose furniture is anticipated to be required only for group study tables, accessible locations (height adjustable tables) and loose chairs that match the fixed furniture described above.
o Finish and material selection and coordination into drawings will be required.
o Review existing student lockers displaced by the informal learning space and provide new lockers in adjacent corridors.
o Half-sized lockers may be considered and should be included within the construction documents.
