• Serve as the office’s lead creative partner, shaping the administration's overarching visual and storytelling direction.
• Translate the office strategic priorities into clear, compelling visual frameworks that strengthen public understanding and trust.
• Drive creative cohesion across all initiatives, ensuring that branding, storytelling, and daily execution ladder up to a unified vision.
• Serve as a thought partner to the senior director of digital, contributing creative strategy, narrative thinking, and ideas for high impact moments.
• Identify opportunities to modernize how the city communicates while protecting institutional credibility, accessibility standards, and public transparency.
• Model creative leadership: inspire ideas, set the tone for visual excellence, and guide the design ecosystem without formal supervisory authority.
2. Brand and rebrand development
• Continue building the office visual identity and brand system.
• Maintain consistency across platforms and ensure visual cohesion for all office content.
• Conduct and update the brand audit; identify gaps, redundancies, and modernization opportunities.
• Develop long-term creative approaches that evolve the brand over time.
3. Daily creative direction and execution
• Support the day-to-day creative direction of social and digital content, ensuring materials reflect the office voice, priorities, and tone.
• Provide concepts, visual systems, and templates for recurring content across platforms.
• Create original graphic assets, visual treatments, and motion-friendly layouts as needed.
• Help the on-staff graphic designer with direction, feedback, and high-level ideation to improve speed and quality of visual output.
• Elevate overall creative consistency, polish, and adherence to brand standards.
4. Storytelling and strategic support
• Partner with the senior director of digital to shape narrative direction for key initiatives, milestones, and moments.
• Identify story opportunities, visual angles, and creative executions that make complex work more understandable to the public.
• Develop visual strategies that align with office bass’ priorities, values, and communications goals.
• ensure all visuals support clarity, accessibility, and high public service communication standards
5. Cross-department collaboration
• Support collaboration with comms, legal, policy, field, and other departments for accuracy and approvals.
• Translate policy, program updates, and citywide initiatives into public-facing visual communications.
• Help maintain brand consistency across departments and partner agencies.
• Contribute creative perspective in cross-functional planning meetings when appropriate.
6. Reporting and documentation
• Maintain organized brand materials, templates, and version histories.
• Produce quarterly summaries highlighting major updates, accomplishments, challenges, and next-step recommendations.
• Document visual guidelines and systems for internal use across the office and city teams.
