The vendor is required to provide community relations coordinator to help us maintain and nurture these relationships.

- Essential duties and responsibilities
• Develop culturally responsive strategies for building and maintaining programs and activities that will have a positive impact on local tribal and non-tribal communities.
• Build and maintain relationships with key groups (such as the cultural resources support team) and members of the community, partnering organizations, and other collaborating entities engaged with agency on the resiliency and projects.
• Create agency first-ever tribal youth advisory council (TYAC) to give citizens ages 15-26 opportunities to work alongside elders with meaningful activities that will facilitate an intergenerational exchange of wisdom.
• Develop and implement strategies to ensure that TYAC activities support resiliency grant goals and support leadership development opportunities, and climate literacy and engagement among gen z and following generation citizens.
• Manage all resiliency communications with the tribal community and ensure that actionable science translates into climate literacy, increased citizen involvement, and increased resiliency
• Serve as a mentor to junior staff members and assist with their professional development and provide pathways to opportunities for future growth of the community engagement office.
• Organize community outreach programs and coordinate special events that promote culturally based designs, plans and specifications for restoration projects aimed at building tribal climate resiliency.
• Draft and distribute communications that promote the work of resiliency and associated projects as well as individuals and groups associated with these projects.
• Attend relevant events and activities to represent agency and build strong relationships with key community leaders and citizens.
• Respond to inquiries from community members and other parties, and recruit knowledgeable spokespeople or information sources for assistance when needed.
• Build and promote cross-functional relationships within pertinent agency departments and programs.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute public press conferences, working with third-party pr agencies when necessary.
• Manage social media content and virtual groups to enhance agency online profile in the natural resources, energy, climate, and tribal cultural spheres.

• Proficiency in computers and multiple packages of software, ideally (but not required) adobe suite (illustrator, InDesign, photoshop) or similar.

• Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism.
• Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating a high level of understanding of tribal traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and its applicability and correlation to conventional scientific principles, practices and techniques.
• General knowledge of business, budgeting, accounting, purchasing and planning.
• Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated in seven grandfather teachings.
• Exceptional detail and follow-up skills.
• Advanced proficiency in leadership and management skills and techniques.
• Ability to effectively establish priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action.
• Successful completion of program director training within one year from the date of hire.
• Current driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.
