Recycling Services

The vendor is required to provide that recycling services for a mattress and box spring recycling process that aligns with the city’s existing environmental and sustainability policies and practices and that offerors can ensure the maximum amount of recyclability as possible from each mattress and box spring collected, thus minimizing landfill waste.

• Pick up and transportation
o Offeror is responsible for picking up all mattresses and box springs from city’s delong storage facility located at 719 south delong street.
o Offeror shall work with city designee to create a pickup schedule for routine pick up of all mattresses and box springs at facility.
o Offeror shall work with city designee to create contingency and special circumstances plans in the event of excess mattresses and box springs being stored at agreed upon location resulting from the city holding a non-routine curbside pickup event and/or other special collection event for city residents.
o Offeror shall be responsible for all transportation of mattresses and box springs from the city’s storage location to offeror’s processing and recycling facility or facilities.
o Offeror shall be responsible for providing one staged dry van trailer at delong storage facility for storage and transportation of mattresses and box springs.
• Processing and management
o Offeror shall be responsible for material management and post-city storage.
o Offeror shall ensure that all collected materials are handled and stored appropriately to prevent Contamination, damage, injury and other events that would prevent maximum recyclability.
o Timelines – offeror must ensure timely collection in accordance with agreed upon schedule.
o Quality assurance – offeror shall be responsible for maintaining high standards of services, proper handling, processing, recycling and disposal of all materials.
o Customer service – offer shall be responsible for having an easily accessible point of contact or customer service team in place to address any issues that arise for the duration of the contract.
o Recycling and disposal process
o Disassembly – offeror shall disassemble mattresses and box springs, separating all materials into recyclable components including but not limited to steel, foam, wood, fabric, and other materials.
o Sorting – offeror shall sort all materials according to recyclability, ensuring that component like metals, foam, wood and fabric are separated for further processing or recycling
o Recycling – offeror shall process the sorted materials in a way that maximizes recycling and minimizes waste sent to landfills.
o All recycling methods used should be completed in accordance with industry’s best practices and environmental standards.
o Waste disposal – offeror shall be responsible for disposing of all nonrecyclable materials that cannot be reused or repurposed in accordance with local waste management regulations.
o Reporting and documentation
o Waste and recycling reports – offeror shall be provided regular reports to city which includes but not limited to
o Number of mattresses collected
o  Number of box springs collected
o Amount of materials that were successfully recycled 1. details on types of materials recycled by weight
o Any and all issues related to the recycling process
o Percentage of materials diverted from landfills
o Amount of materials that were not recycled and how they were disposed
o Environmental impact metrics the offeror maintains
