Certified Nursing Assistant Program

The Vendor is required to provide certified nursing assistant (CNA) program will equip students with the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide high quality, compassionate care to patients in various healthcare settings.
- COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the shutdown of all student clinical rotations in Long-Term Care Facilities where Nurse Aide clinical rotations occur.
- Students completed the program a year later, once the facilities opened their doors to students again, but agency lost the Nurse Aide faculty members. Hiring qualified personnel for the Nurse Aide Program continues to be extremely difficult. The primary instructor must be an RN with long-term care experience.
- As most area long-term care facilities function with LPNs as the primary staff and RNs function only in supervisory roles, the nurse population available for application is limited. Further, nurses seeking a second employment opportunity find travel nursing much more financially lucrative, so they do not apply for teaching positions.
- This program was previously staffed by part-time faculty in the Practical Nursing Program.
- A nurse aide educational program is essential to address the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals who can provide quality care to an aging population and support currently overburdened healthcare systems.
- Nursing approval to operate a nurse aide training program, or provide proof of submitted application for the state board of nursing to operate a nurse aide training program not yet approved.
- An established curriculum, or a proposed curriculum, for nurse aide educational delivery in compliance with the state board of nursing.
- Provide appropriate classroom and laboratory space, including the necessary supplies and equipment to operate such a program.
- Provide instructors with comprehensive knowledge of the state board of nursing nurse aide curriculum to deliver instruction to teach community nurse aide students enrolled in the program.
- Provide evidence of current certification/licensure/credentials that qualify instructors to provide such services to community.
