The vendor is required to provide auxiliary professional nursing services for youth incarcerated at agency.
- The only institution in the state responsible for the care and custody of incarcerated juvenile offenders.
- Nursing staff with sr-20 registered professional nurse (RPN) nursing services for youth under the jurisdiction of the agency.
- The nurses shall be auxiliary to the existing agency medical doctors and its nursing staff, and shall provide services seven (7) days a week to include recognized state holidays, weekends, morning and night shift hours, as requested and needed to meet nursing staffing needs as schedules become available.
- The services provided will affect the health and recovery of youth patients and will have an impact on their mental, physical, and social well-being
- Provide a holistic approach to patient care, demonstrate professional ethical professional nursing conduct and accountability, critical thinking, compassionate and empathetic care, effective communication, and collaboration regarding assessment of needs and a variety of patient services which may include, but are not limited to, administering medications, operation of medical equipment, trained to respond to crisis emergency situations, and providing medical care to improve the health and welfare of the youth at agency.
- Auxiliary nurses play a vital role in the healthcare system of a youth correctional facility, ensuring that young people in custody receive the necessary medical attention and support to promote their overall well-being.
- Service activities
• Provide nursing services three hundred sixty-five (365) days a year, twenty-four (24) hours per day and seven (7) days per week, including state holidays, to agency upon request via telephone or email communication.
• The request shall include all necessary information pertaining to the assignment of the nurse, dates, and work shifts of the assigned nurse.
• Applicant shall respond within 24-hours of the requested services.
• For emergency and same day requests the applicant shall respond within one (1) hour of the request for services.
• Agency work schedules are determined according to the agency needs and may vary.
• Nursing shifts are either four (4), eight (8), or twelve (12) hours per day, up to forty (40) hours per week, as follows:
o Regular time is a four (4) hour, eight (8) hour, and twelve (12) hour day, up to forty (40) hours per week.
o Overtime is any hours worked over forty (40) hours per week, to be reimbursed at time-and-a-half or one-and-a-half (1.5) times the unit price per hour.
o Holiday rate will be reimbursed at time-and-a-half or one-and-a-half (1.5) times the unit price per hour, as specified in the holiday schedule.

b. Specific duties
• Observe, assess, and treat patients’ clinical condition(s); recognize, identify, and interpret patients’ condition and inform the physician of any medical changes to the patients’ condition.
• Continually assess any changes based on observation of the patient’s conditions, and provide treatment based on the physician’s treatment plan.
• Observe and assess patients closely for any significant behavioral changes.
• Document changes in behavioral terms, and notify the physician and mental health staff.
• Provide and initiate appropriate medical care in an emergency situation, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or first aid, when a physician is not present or immediately available.
• Develop and implement nursing care plans for patients with a wide range of nursing care problems, and provide nurse care and treatment services to patients assigned to agency.
• Provide comprehensive nursing diagnoses and serve as charge nurses as needed.
• Implement nursing care plans approved by the agency medical unit supervisor.
• Administer prescribed medications ordered by the physician, which may include intramuscular and oral medication, and observe patients for adverse reactions and take appropriate action.
• Utilize physician orders and nursing standards of care related to redirecting behavior of patients diagnosed with a mental health diagnosis.
• Perform initial health screening upon intake to identify any immediate medical needs or pre-existing conditions, assess patients’ physical and mental health, monitor vital signs, assist with wound care and dressing changes, collect laboratory samples (if needed), and provide education on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and substance abuse.
• Perform other administrative duties, such as admissions, transfers, discharges, and making appointments for the patients as needed with outside clinics and laboratories.
