The Vendor is required to provide next generation data backup solution include hardware, software, installation, implementation, consultation, services, maintenance, and training on proposed solution.
- A comprehensive backup solution to support our VMware virtual environment, encompassing all virtualized servers, as well as several physical windows and Linux servers; we welcome a diverse range of proposals, including both cloud-based and local backup options.
- Cloud-based backup solutions, the service must operate over the city’s existing network infrastructure and operate efficiently without saturating our two 1 GB internet connections.
- Local backup solutions, the system will initially be housed in the City Hall server room, with potential future relocation to a new server room currently under construction.
- System must have the capability to integrate with a cloud-based replication service, though the cloud service itself does not need to be included in the proposal.
- Required System Features
• Local appliance, cloud hosted (SAAS), or hybrid
• Time-locked immutability
• Ability to backup major virtualization platforms
• Ability to backup physical Linux and Windows hosts
• Minimal impact on source systems
• Ability to replicate to a cloud service
• Ability to restore systems into production or a test environment
• Logging and reporting
• Data encryption in transit
• Support at least 30 restore points over 90 days for proposed solution price
- Desirable System Features
• SOC 3 reports or similar for service providers
• Low administrative overhead
• Granular restore capabilities, with ability to restore a single file or database object without restoring the entire virtual server
• Search of objects in backups by name and/or time
• Indexing of filenames in backups to allow for search
• Ability to support existing storage size and easily scale up to increase capacity
• Ability to have separate backup schedules for different systems
• Role based access control
• Data encryption at rest
• Automated system restoration testing
• Granular point-in-time restoration
- Storage Requirements
• The City currently backs up a bit less than 100TB of data. We estimate a 10% growth rate each year. After three years, we estimate a need to backup 133TB of data, and after five years we estimate 162TB of data.
- Contract Period/Term: 1 year
