The vendor is required to provide emergency response system (ERS) is an electronic device that enables a high-risk participant to secure immediate help in a physical, emotional, or environmental emergency.
- The ERS system must signal the response center when the help button is activated or when the participant has failed to contact the response center at a specified interval.
- Once the button is activated, a response center receives a signal.
- A trained staff is responsible for ensuring a response is provided to meet the emergency.
- Participants must agree to have an ERS installed service before authorization of the ERS.
- Goal
• To promote safety in the home by eliminating the need to have extensive in-home supervision and alerting the service provider in an emergency.
• To anticipate or prevent institutionalization.
- Service unit
• Landline - a monthly landline equipment rental and monitoring cost.
• Landline with fall detection – equivalent to 3.1.1 but includes fall detection technology.
• Cellular - a monthly cellular and wireless equipment rental and monitoring cost
• Cellular with fall detection – equivalent to 3.1.3 but includes fall detection technology.
• Mobile with global positions system (GPS) – a monthly wireless equipment rental and monitoring cost that includes GPS technology (to identify the location of the program participant).
• Mobile with global positions system (GPS) with fall detection – equivalent to 3.1.5 but includes fall detection technology.
• Extra pendant – this is a non-reimbursable service unit used (for tracking purposes) for a spouse or significant that is utilizing the service of a current household ERS service subscriber.
