The vendor is required to providing qualified sign language interpreters (SLIS) or other appropriate auxiliary aids and services when necessary to afford individuals with hearing disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in and benefit from public services, programs, and activities.
- Provide SLI and DI services accurately and consistently in a manner understood by the majority of users, and reflective of the diversity of the deaf community.
- Interpreter(s) shall accurately reflect the voice, tone, emotion, and non-spoken message of the communication.
- Interpreter(s) shall not allow their own opinions, emotions, or experiences change the message being communicated.
- Respondent’s services are requested to be rendered in-person or remotely during typical employee working hours, 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday but there may be instances where services may be outside typical working hours.
• Agency will endeavor to schedule interpreter(s) at least three (3) business days prior to the event.
• Agency may have a need, on a rare occasion, to request an interpreter with as little as twenty-four (24) hours’ notices.
• Agency will provide respondent with all relevant details of the event, including but not limited to the following: type of interpreting required, date, time, duration, location, and nature of the event.
• Respondent agrees to respond to a request within two (2) business days, when possible.
• During that timeframe, agency reserves the right to continue to seek SLI and DI services from another respondent
- In-person SLI and DI services shall be performed at the location(s) where the employee normally conducts agency business.
