The Vendor is required to provide professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting and transliterating services to ensure equal access to university programs, services, and activities in compliance with the Act.
- Provide qualified ASL interpreters and transliterators to ensure effective communication access for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf Blind individuals across academic and campus environments.
- Services will support undergraduate and graduate instruction, examinations, laboratory courses, academic advising, student services appointments, co-curricular programs, commencement, campus-sponsored events, and urgent communication needs.
- Services may be delivered in person at agency locations or remotely via University-approved platforms, as specified in each service request.
- All interpreters must adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct, maintain confidentiality in accordance with act, ensure timely staffing, provide prompt notification of changes, and furnish qualified replacement coverage when necessary.
- Provide services in settings including, but not limited to:
• Undergraduate and graduate classroom instruction
• Exams, labs, and academic activities
• Academic advising and faculty meetings
• Student services appointments
• Co-curricular programs and campus-sponsored events
• Commencement and large-scale events
• Emergency or urgent communication access needs
- Provide services in the format specified in each work request:
• In-person at University’s main campus and affiliated locations
• Remote/virtual via approved video platforms
- Currently, the number of Deaf or Hard of Hearing students (undergraduate, graduate, and credential) requiring ASL Interpreting services varies from four (4) to twelve (12) students per academic term. Enrollment levels and services demand fluctuate based on course registration, practicum placements, and participation in campus programs and activities.
- Services may also be required for special campus-wide events, meetings, orientations, commencement activities, and other University-sponsored programs.
- University averages approximately 350-400 hours of ASL Interpreting services per month, inclusive of classroom instruction, laboratories, practicums, academic meetings, and campus events. Actual usage may exceed this estimate depending on enrollment growth, course modality, or unanticipated student need.
