The Vendor is required to provide independent claims adjusting services to the city.
- The types of claims that may be assigned include, but are not limited to: property, municipal liability, automobile liability and physical damage, including transit fleet, transit accident benefits, environmental and crime.
- The claims adjusting services are based on three (3) categories as follows:
• Category 1 – Municipal Liability, Including Automobile Liability
• Category 2 – City Property Damage
• Category 3 – Automobile - Accident Benefits - Some of these claims are investigated and processed internally; however, independent adjusters are utilized for accident benefits claims, field adjusting, catastrophic losses including but not limited to water damage from overland flooding and overflow of work.
- Services will be required on ‘as needed’ basis.
- Services include but are not limited to:
• Investigation and adjusting of insured losses, including subrogation when necessary;
• Appraisal and evaluation of damages;
• Analysis of city liability;
• Maintenance of separate files for each reported claim, each of which shall include information required to assure a prepared case in the event of litigation;
• Provision of progress reports on individual claims;
• First and continual direct contact with third party claimants;
• Settlement of claims under various property and casualty insurance, subject to any written authority with the city’s insurance and risk management department or authorized representative;
• Distribution of claim cheques and procurement of releases in co-operation with the city’s insurance and risk management department or authorized representative; and,
• Participation in the city’s risk management process upon their request.
- Adjustment, and/or negotiation, and/or investigation, and/or settlement, and/or liability assessment, and/or damage assessment of claims against the City on a full or task assignment basis.
- Full handle or task assignments will require adjudication by desk or road work assignment as the claim requires and as assigned by the City.
- Skilled and knowledgeable staff that are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for services, including but not limited to, claim reporting, after hours visits to scenes of loss, respond to telephone enquiries, and after-hours emergency response if required and warranted.
- Must be prepared to participate in quarterly claims meetings with risk management staff to discuss status and strategy for outstanding claims at no additional cost to the city.
