The Vendor is required to provide crossing guard services to be provided on all regularly scheduled school days between august 2026 and June 2029.
- Requirement:
1. Coverage and scheduling
• Ensure that all designated crossing guard locations are staffed during school arrival and dismissal times according to each school's official bell schedule.
• Coverage must account for early arrivals, staggered start times, and dismissal variation across schools.
• Each school crossing guard shall work two (2) shifts per day covering the start and end of each school day.
• Generally, crossing guards are required in the morning from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and in the afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. but may vary based on school location.
• Mondays are minimum schedule and students are released at either 12:30 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. Depending on the specific school site schedule.
• Develop schedules in coordination with the annual and daily school calendars including holidays, early dismissals, emergency closures, district observed "no-school" days.
• Maintain a pool of trained substitute crossing guards to cover absences, last minute changes, or emergencies ensuring uninterrupted services during al bell schedule periods.
• Coordinate with the city to make timely adjustments to the schedule for changes in bell times, special events, or other unforeseen circumstances affecting student crossings.
• Extra services require prior written approval from the city's contract administrator or their designee before beginning any additional work.
• These services may include but are not limited to:
o Additional hours/days
o Additional school locations.
- Duties and safety
• Halt vehicles when necessary by mechanical and hand signal to permit children to cross the road safely.
• Maintain order among children assembled at street crossing points and permit them to cross only when they can do so safely.
• Report to the department the license plate numbers of motor vehicles whose drivers violate traffic laws or crossing guard instructions.
• Make children aware of the elements of traffic safety and operation of pedestrian controls.
• Report to school authorities the names of children who do not follow safety regulations.
• Guards must follow all applicable traffic laws and safety protocols.

• General orientation concerning the vendor's rules and regulations of employment.
• Instructions on the proper handling of required reports, including time reporting of children and traffic violators to the appropriate authorities.
• Crossing guard techniques appropriate to the guard post, including traffic control information.
• Basic rules of first aid as established by the American Red Cross.
• Telephone numbers and addresses of the school served by the crossing guards and local law enforcement and emergency assistance agencies.
• Public relations instructions, including the importance of image, dress and appearance, attitude and general demeanor of a crossing guard.
