The Vendor is required to provide for the provision and supply of a wayfinding signage Plan for city.
- the plan is to create a framework and implementation strategy that will result in enhanced accessibility and user experience of the city’s network of green spaces, amenities/destinations and the community’s downtown area.
- The City understands the value of parks, trails and place making in a vibrant community and there is a recognized need for enhanced navigation and informative signage that supports, encourages and enhances the community’s use of these areas and amenities.
- The project will result in a plan that will incorporate consistent signage, interpretive materials, technology, improve wayfinding, place making and engage the community in the creation of the plan.
- The recommendations related to the City’s parks and trail systems will include considerations related to:
• Educational opportunities on the environment,
• Cultural history;
• Directional signage;
• Park and trail use limitations; and
• Support emergency response in the parks through identifiable nomenclature and markers.
- A consultant would be hired to complete an inventory of current and possible sign/information locations, research and compilation of potential information to be used as well as provide recommendations for possible technology requirements
- Wayfinding Plan outlining at a minimum:
• Review of existing park, trail and downtown signage in the city
• Background document review of current planning documents, bylaws and policies related to the project.
• Jurisdictional scan of wayfinding, place making and directional signage used in up to ten identified municipalities.
• Identification of current gaps in wayfinding signage and recommendations.
• Integration of place making principles to ensure signage contributes to sense of place, community identity, and supports economic, cultural, and recreational vibrancy
• Tourist orientated directional sign recommendations.
• List of sign removal, replacement and enhancement locations.
• Wayfinding system design for both parks and trails, and the city’s downtown, with consideration for city identification signs to be unique as a sub brand.
• Facilities, highlighting locations, destinations how to get to facilities
• Technology recommendations and integrations with current and future systems.
• Incorporating the 10 principles of crime, prevention though environmental design (CPTED).
• Wayfinding graphic standards, with consideration for accessibility and integration of standardized infographics.
• Phased project implementation with recommendations for implementation over several years.
• Standardized sign content that outlines standards for sign content to be used on the various types of signs, which may also include map images.
• Signage guidelines and graphics outlining the standardized use will be provided as vector files.
• Outside sign orientation package (making sure it includes all software and technology needed to all location of signs).
• Wherever possible, recommendations should incorporate the state traffic signage program pict-o-gram inventory.
• Consider opportunities for distinctive wayfinding signage design within the city area.
• Engagement with various community partners and council committees.
