- Provide assistance in streamlining communication between insurers, adjusters, and relevant municipal departments to facilitate the timely resolution of claims.
- Coverage limits:
• Minimum limit of $1,000,000 per occurrence for bodily injury and property damage.
• Aggregate limit of $3,000,000 per policy period.
• Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage with limits equal to those specified above.
- Types of coverage:
• Liability coverage for bodily injury and property damage.
• Pursuit of subrogation - should the city need to pursue subrogation rights against a negligent third party.
• Medical payments coverage.
• Comprehensive coverage for loss of or damage to vehicles owned or operated by the city.
• Collision coverage for city vehicles.
• Rental reimbursement coverage for vehicle downtime due to accidents.
- Policy requirements:
• The insurance policy must provide coverage for all vehicles owned, consumed or operated by the city, including but not limited to passenger vehicles, trucks, and specialty vehicles.
• Essential coverages must include, but are not limited to, liability protection, property damage, bodily injury, and legal defense costs.
• The policy must automatically cover newly acquired vehicles for a minimum period of 30 days until the city completes the necessary documentation for coverage.
- Compliance standards:
• All insurance policies must comply with state insurance laws and regulations.
• The insurance provider must be licensed to conduct insurance business in the state.
• The insurance provider must be an admitted carrier with an am best rating of a- or better. - Policy management:
• Provide a dedicated account manager to assist the city with day-to-day inquiries and claims processing.
• Assist in the development of a customized risk management program for the city.
- Claims handling:
• Provide a clear and accessible claims process that is available 24/7.
• Claims must be acknowledged within 24 hours and assigned to a claims representative for prompt handling.
• The insurance provider must provide quarterly loss runs and insights into claims history.
- Documentation:
• Provide the city with all required documentation, including certificates of insurance, policy declarations, and endorsements.
• Ensure the timely renewal of coverage, providing adequate notice to the city at least 30 days before the renewal date.
