The Vendor is required to provide to become a leader in responsible and career-connected AI education, ensuring students have both broad AI literacy and deep workforce preparation.
- This broad and deep approach forms a coherent pipeline for students, ensuring there is a universal AI literacy foundation in grades 6-8, exploratory courses and focused exposure to AI in grades 9-10, and specialized agency pathways with interdisciplinary capstones in grades 11-12.
- Objectives:
• Establish a structured AI literacy progression beginning in middle school and culminating in high school specialization, ensuring all students reflect state vision for an AI-Infused Learner, where they develop foundational knowledge, responsible use practices, and opportunities for deeper technical learning.
• Design and launch career-connected pathways aligned to artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, enabling students to gain applied skills through interdisciplinary learning, real-world projects, and industry engagement.
- Structured AI Literacy Progress
• Develop district expectations for learning that extend from state vision for an AI-infused learner, outlining AI knowledge and skills by grade for grades 6-12, ensuring alignment between AI standards and related expectations in computer science, digital literacy, and career readiness
• Design middle school AI foundations introductory models, inclusive of introductory modules to integrated into science and/or technology to ensure vertical alignment
• Design middle school AI expectations and ways to reinforce, extend, and support AI literacy across core courses
• Develop specialized AI courses for high school students, such as data science, machine learning foundations, or AI for social impact
• Align advanced AI courses to current and future anticipated pathways
• Define how to best assess learning and application of AI skillsets, designing core assessments, performance tasks, or capstone projects
• Embed responsible AI and digital citizenship into AI literacy progression, ensuring all students have a basic understanding of ethics, bias in AI, data privacy, and responsible AI usage
• Curate instructional resources and tools, articulating how to best use selected tools within agency and developing exemplar resources for common use cases
• Develop AI literacy campaign for families, ensuring families understand how to leverage AI themselves to support their students’ learning and are invested in AI literacy
- Career-Connected Pathways Aligned to Artificial Intelligence
• Conduct a regional labor market analysis to identify in-demand employment opportunities and industries working in emerging technology and AI
• Recruit industry and higher education partners to deliver project-based learning opportunities, serve as mentors, support design work, and fulfill other roles as deemed necessary
• Set up a salt lake city AI pathway advisory board, made up of local industry leaders, government officials, and philanthropic donors to inform pathway work and support additional connections
• Define a comprehensive set of potential AI pathways and a prioritized set of 2-4 initial pathways (ex: AI and data science, intelligent systems and robotics) that are aligned with regional workforce and labor market demands and current (or anticipated) postsecondary programs
• Partner with local industry to create flexible staffing models, defining necessary expertise for AI pathways and leveraging co-teaching structures for prioritized pathways
• Design the 9-12th grade course sequence for initial prioritized pathways
• Define 11-12th grade capstone experiences, targeting capstones that can be guided by industry mentorship and are based on local industry problem statements
• Align credentials to postsecondary credit, ensuring industry certifications, dual enrollment opportunities, and credit opportunities align between agency and local higher education partners
• Create an implementation plan to launch and finalize full course design for the initial set of prioritized AI pathways.
