Tabletop Scanning Electron Microscope Services

The vendor is required to provide tabletop scanning electron microscope (SEM) imaging and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis for research and teaching purposes.
- Key requirements for the instrument include ease of use, rapid imaging capabilities, minimal user training needs, and low operational costs. 
- Technical specifications
•    Portable system capable of acquiring images within five (5) minutes from powered-off state.
•    Operates on standard 15a, 100-120v ac outlets.
•    No requirement for compressed air or water cooling.
•    Oil-free vacuum system.
•    Built-in anti-vibration design for direct table installation.
•    Tungsten filament source preferred; user-replaceable with less than ten (10) min downtime and filament life counter.
•    Resolution better than ten (10) nm.
•    Accelerating voltage adjustable in several steps, capable of reaching at least twenty (20)
•    Beam current tunable in several steps (modes); high current mode for eds is a plus.
•    Photographic magnification up to 100,000x or more; digital magnification up to 250,000x or more.
•    Includes sed and BSD detectors operable in low vacuum mode.
•    Mixed signal imaging capability is a plus.
•    Cathodoluminescence signal collection is a plus.
•    Includes stem accessory (scintillator based preferred over reflection)
•    Includes eds system; oxford instruments preferred.
•    Compatible with future EBSD upgrade is preferred.
•    Supports multiple pressure modes for imaging of water containing and uncoated samples.
•    Variable pressure mode must be easy to use and unrestricted.
•    Fast switching between high and low vacuum modes without beam shutdown.
•    Accommodates samples up to 40x40x40 mm or bigger.
•    Stage travel at least 35 mm in x and y; motorized x and y axes.
•    Future installation of cool and heat stage should be supported.
•    Navigation camera must be included.
•    Automated imaging mode for inexperienced users with auto-adjustment of key parameters.
•    Image export in non-proprietary formats like bmp, tiff, jpeg.
- Installation and support
•    On-site installation and training required.
•    On-site support during warranty period.
•    All warranty, maintenance, and repair services must be performed on-site if needed.
•    Preferably serviced by a country-based engineer.
•    Remote support (web based or over phone) should be available during and after the warranty period.
