The Vendor is required to provide exhibition planning and design services.
- Pre-Design:
• Travel to museum for orientation of exhibit space
• Identify and document media, objects and resources for the exhibition
• Document, measure, and site-verify existing space
• Conduct an exhibit planning workshop/charette
• Review and/or develop themes, goals, and objectives.
• This includes defining the target audience and defining the desired visitor experience
• Develop a project brief which includes
- Schematic Design:
• Content research
• Schematic Design Development Deliverable. Schematic Design package shall include the following:
1. Bubble diagrams identifying themes and concepts, placed in relationship to each other and the exhibit space.
2. Floor plan with individual exhibit scenes, content groups and major exhibit elements identified.
3. Preliminary sketches for each design element
4. Visitor experience narrative to accompany sketches
5. Content Matrix
6. Production Cost estimate
- Design Development
• Develop and provide a Design Development Package that includes the following:
1. Overview with narrative description, including interpretive purpose statement and objective, for each exhibit scene and content group
2. Perspective View Renderings that communicate the design intent within each scene of the content group
3. Sample graphic layouts, including graphics approach and typography d. Preliminary material finish and color selection
4. A/V Concept Treatment
5. Production cost estimate
• Continue to work collaboratively with the museum’s electrical engineer to ensure power and data are available within the gallery space
• Draft Text and graphic layouts
- Construction Documents:
• Cover sheet that identifies the project name, project location and site plan, date of submission, and table of contents
• Floor plan of the facility showing location of the exhibit site, the primary exhibit space with name and location of each Scene, and references to exhibit detail drawings
• Floor plans and elevations of existing conditions indicating any modifications such as demolition and new construction
• Plan and elevation views of each Scene/Content Group identified by title and number, and showing exhibit structures and all graphic panels, case locations, and all other interpretive content with identification numbers. Include a floor plan on each sheet indicating the location of the view shown
• Typical fabrication details including plan, elevation, sectional, and isometric views
• Fabrication details for unusual exhibit structures
• Case schedule
• Graphics Schedule
• Case layouts, showing placement of each object or artifact being displayed within the exhibit.
• Reflected ceiling plan of the exhibit areas, including lighting fixtures and hardware. Include a lighting schedule for all new lighting.
• An electrical plan of the exhibit area including floor and wall outlets, ceiling junction boxes, power circuits and power load for each individual exhibit element or audiovisual element.
• Exhibit power, lighting, and audiovisual control switch locations.
• Description of exhibit start-up, operation, and shut-down procedures
• Specification of all colors, materials, and finishes to be used.
• Floor finishes
• Final graphic layouts for all graphics
• Catalogue cut sheets of all of the shelf productions, including lighting fixtures, electronic hardware, a/v equipment, computer systems, cables, pushbuttons and ventilation fans
o Final Treatments for A/V and computer interactives
o Final Text and graphic layouts
- Creative Direction and production ready files
• Provide production ready files for all graphics
• Provide creative and technical support during fabrication and installation of the project
• Review and approve fabricator’s shop drawings.
