The Vendor is required to provide to actively advance the participation of women in the construction and maintenance sectors by delivering a suite of supports, including hands-on experiential learning opportunities, targeted employability skills training, strategic employer engagement, structured mentoring, and postplacement support.
- These measures are designed to facilitate meaningful employment outcomes and long-term career development for women in these industries.
- Specialized Career and Employment Services:
• Group-based instruction: deliver 12 weeks of classroom training to ensure participants have the information necessary to make an informed choice about which trade they wish to pursue. Following the two-week work placement, deliver two weeks of intensive job search.
• Vocational and life skills development: provide class instruction including job search, employment readiness, essential skills, financial literacy, and fitness program and nutrition awareness.
• Industry-specific training: offer training that includes workplace tours, guest speakers, and essential safety certifications (e.g., scot, first aid, and agency). Pre-employment preparation covers personal protective equipment (PPE), tool kits, and foundational trade skills through trade samplers aligned with current labour market demand. The program also incorporates mentoring, shop-based learning, and training on workplace realities for women entering male-dominated trades.
• Employment-related financial supports: assess participant needs and allocate funding for critical supports such as personal protective equipment (PPE), work gear, drug and alcohol testing (if required), and transportation to enhance job readiness and access to employment opportunities.
• Education and training incentive (ETI): assist with the administration of the education and training incentive (ETI) in accordance with ETI policy and guidelines for eligible participants during the classroom training portion of the program.
- Client-Centred Case Management Services:
• Conduct Comprehensive Assessments: Deliver information sessions and screen applicants to ensure informed career choices aligned with industry-defined core competencies. Assess each participant’s needs, goals, and employment barriers to create a tailored service plan that evaluates their work readiness and stability.
• Establish Employment Goals: Collaborate with Participants to define relevant employment objectives and create a customized service plan outlining the steps required to achieve them.
• Provide Ongoing Support: Monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, and proactively address emerging barriers as Participants work toward their employment goals. Maintain contact with Participants and provide resources and support as appropriate to ensure continued employment success.
- Employer Partnerships:
• Job Shadow: Coordinate unpaid job shadowing experiences for Participants during weeks 13 and 14 of the program.
• Employer Engagement: Network with Saskatoon and area employers to develop links to employment for graduates. Develop opportunities for mentorship to support women through apprenticeship in the construction industry.
• Employer Support: Work with employers to encourage supportive and gender-inclusive workplace practices.
• Participation in local Employment Events: Support Participants to attend job fairs and networking events in agency, expanding their access to diverse employers and career opportunities.
- Collaboration with Local Service Providers:
• Enhance Service Coordination: Facilitate seamless referrals and shared service planning to address
• Participants’ diverse needs, including housing, mental health, addictions, childcare, and financial supports.
• Leverage Community Expertise: Work alongside specialized providers to deliver complementary programming and workshops that enrich the Participant experience and improve employment outcomes.
• Strengthen Community Networks: Participate in local inter-agency committees and working groups to stay informed of emerging trends, share best practices, and advocate for integrated service delivery.
