The Vendor is required to provide medical evaluation services required by employees' retirement system (ERS).
- Disability Retirement
• ERS members may apply for disability retirement if they meet eligibility criteria and are found to be totally and permanently disabled.
• ERS offers two types of disability retirement:
o Accidental
o Ordinary
- Ordinary disability retirement ("ODR")
• An ERS member is eligible for ODR if the member's employment is terminated prior to normal retirement age due to a non-work related illness or injury.
• An additional requirement for ODR is that the member must have 15 years of ERS service credit at the time of termination.
• The application, evaluation and approval process are the same as described above for accidental disability retirement (ADR) applications.
- Combined ADR and ODR applications
• ERS member may apply for ADR with the provision that if the member is not found to be disabled under the ADR criteria, they want to be considered for ODR.
• The application, evaluation and approval process is the same as described above for ADR applications.
- Disability reexamination
• The retiree continues to be disabled and future reexaminations will not be required,
• The retiree continues to be disabled but should be subject to future reexaminations, or
• The retiree is no longer disabled and subject to the return to work process.
- Disability activity volume
• County has an active workforce of approximately 3,000 people who are in the ERS.
• ERS currently has a total of approximately 8,000 retirees and survivors receiving benefits.
• The retiree population includes 254 disability retirees (133 ADR and 121 ODR).
• Annually ERS averages five to ten disability retirement applications.
