- Objectives
• Secure pharmacy services: establish a service agreement with a qualified pharmacy provider capable of supporting current and future operational needs.
• Medication management and distribution: ensure safe, accurate, and WW efficient medication dispensing and distribution systems (e.g., blister packs, automated dispensing where applicable).
• Implementation and transition plan.
• Collaborate with the selected provider to develop and execute a comprehensive transition and implementation plan, including timelines, key milestones, and resource allocation, ensuring continuity of care during the transition period.
- Integration with existing system
• Ensure effective integration with the residence's existing electronic health record (ehr) system and any other relevant clinical or administrative systems to support efficient workflows, reduce duplication, and enhance medication safety.
- Medication dispensing and delivery
• Dispensing systems used (e.g., blister packs, automated dispensing, individual unit-dose, multi-dose compliance packaging)
• Delivery schedule - frequency, days of the week, and turnaround time for stat and urgent orders.
• After-hours, holiday, and emergency dispensing procedures.
• Handling of controlled substances and narcotics in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Process for new admissions, discharges, and temporary absences (hospital leaves).
• Cold chain management for medications requiring refrigeration
• Emergency medication supply and disaster recovery procedures

• Confirm that your pharmacy software is fully compatible and integrated with point click care (PCC).

• Pharmacy management system can interface with our automated dispensing cabinets (ADCS).
• The nature of the interface and detail the functionality supported, including order transmission, inventory updates, user synchronization, reporting, and real-time resident list updates (not mandatory, but strongly recommended).
• Medication orders are transmitted between the prescriber, the residence, and the pharmacy (e.g., electronic prescribing, fax, secure messaging).
• System's capabilities for medication order verification 24 hour, 7 days a week, drug utilization review (DUR), and alert management.
• Describe your data backup, cybersecurity, and privacy protection protocols.
- Pharmaceutical and clinical support services
• Availability of a consultant pharmacist for clinical pharmacy services.
• Participation in the interdisciplinary care team and care conferences as required.
• Provision of medication administration records (mars/tars) compatible with the residence's systems
• Management of medication wastage, returns, and disposal in compliance with state regulations.
