The vendor is required to provide IT infrastructure modernization services to configure all of the storage and compute clusters and backup nodes to provide the best industry standard interoperability, security, performance, and manageability possible.
1. Compute and storage clusters
• 3 sites consisting of 2 in GCM (inland and dock) and 1 in CYB.
• The 2 GCM sites should consist of a single cluster while the CYB sites would be its own cluster.
• Each site should have at least 3 nodes made up of both compute and storage servers with any 2 nodes having the capacity to run all the VMs listed in addendum 1 (n+1 redundancy).
• Each site must be able to replicate to all of the other sites (site 1 to 2: 2gb link, 1 & 2 to 3 40mb link) to maintain a high availability uptime of 99.99% and a RPO of less than 1 minute.
• VMs must be capable of running on any node.
• Each site must have at least the following specs:
o fully on prem solutions only (no cloud, hosting, IaaS, etc. solutions)
o n+1 redundant nodes
o rack-mountable in standard 19” rack using 120v (NEMA 5-15 plugs)
o total of at least 1024gb of memory per site
o total of at least 60tb of usable disk (all SSD or a tiered 1:3 ratio of SSD to HDD) per site
o use 10gbps copper network for VM related traffic and 1gbps for management
o redundant power supplies and fans
o enterprise level lights out management
• Clusters should be running a reliable, established, feature rich and easy to manage hypervisor compatible with the selected server and backup hardware.
• Native Veeam backup software compatibility is required (non-Veeam based solutions will not be accepted).
• Management system must have enterprise level security including ad integrations, SSO, MFA, etc.
• Hypervisors should have the following specs:
o Full feature stack out of the box
o Single pane of glass for management of entire environment
o Distributed (or software defined) storage
o Software defined networking
o Simple cluster scalability
o Automated cluster firmware upgrades with 0 downtime
o Cluster auditing, logging, monitoring, analytics and reporting
o At rest data encryption
o Secure boot
o TPM and vTPM support
o Enterprise level security (including ad integration, SSO, MFA, etc.)
o VM and volume level native snapshots
o Live migration
o High availability with native asynchronous and synchronous replication
o Support for active-active ha
o Support for rest APIs, cli and PowerShell
o Support for automation
o Native support for Veeam
o Support for VMware VM migration
o Behavioral threat monitoring (ransomware detection, etc.)
2. Backup nodes
• 2 locations for backups, 1 each in GCM and CYB.
• Each location must be able to store 10 years’ worth of gfs backups for the entirety of the port authority.
• Each location should be able to accept local backups and sync with the other location.
• Backup servers must provide for the following features:
o Dedicated backup appliance (no software solutions on standard server hardware).
o Fully compatible with Veeam enterprise backup software.
o Fully compatible with the hypervisor and management system proposed for the computer and storage clusters.
o Support for gfs backups with 7 daily, 4 weekly, 12 monthly and 10 yearly retention points
o Automatic backup replication to other locations and possible 3rd independent location with wan optimization.
o Support compression, at rest encryption and global deduplication natively in the backup appliance.
o Two-tier retention - one for fast restores and instant VM recovery and one for long term archives.
o Immutable backup storage for ransomware protection.
o Enterprise level security including ad integrations, SSO, MFA, etc.
o Solution is scalable allowing for extra drives or nodes
o Centralized management.
