The Vendor is required to provide medical directors active in the practice of emergency medicine and actively involved with an emergency medical service organization.
- The rate of compensation for the selected Medical Director’s billable hours will be $100.00 per hour, not to exceed seventy-one thousand dollars ($71,000.00) per fiscal year.
- Services include:
• Direct the executive director of the division of EMS and advise the board with regard to adult and pediatric trauma and emergency medical services issues.
• Serve as an advocate for the EMS system in governmental relations.
• Work with local medical directors to develop and implement the protocols and standing orders under which the out-of-hospital care provider functions.
• Ensure the appropriateness of initial training of out-of-hospital personnel involved in patient care and tele communicators.
• Assist with development and implementation of an effective regional/state process improvement program for continuous system and patient care improvement.
• Promote EMS research at the local, regional, and state level.
• Interact with regional, state, and local EMS authorities to ensure that standards, needs, and requirements are met and resource utilization is optimized.
• Promulgate public education and information on the prevention of injury and handling of emergencies.
• Serve as a patient advocate in the EMS system.
• Recommend contemporary patient care standards to the board.
• Develop, recommend, and implement protocols, scopes of practice, and guidelines under which the out-of-hospital care provider functions.
• Assist with evaluation and recommendations for equipment used in patient care throughout the system.
• Develop and assist with implementation of an effective quality improvement program for continuous system and patient care improvement.
• Assist in the review of aggregate data from the emergency medical service incident reporting system (EMSIRS) and trauma registry.
• Maintain liaison with the emergency medical care community, including, but not limited to, regional physician advisory boards, hospitals, emergency departments, physicians, out-of-hospital providers, and nurses.
• Interact with national, regional, state, and local EMS authorities to ensure standards, needs, and requirements are met and resource needs defined.
• Maintain knowledge levels appropriate for an EMS medical director through continuing education.
• Accept medical leadership role for education of bioterrorism and other emerging threats relative to out-of-hospital care providers.
