The Vendor is required to provide medical services care and related services for adult and youthful inmate medical, dental and psychiatric health care
- Nursing coverage
• Center requires that nurses staff the facility Monday thru Sunday.
• Hours will be 16 hours per day, Monday thru Friday from 6:30am-10:30pm to ensure that all times for medication distribution are covered.
• Hours on Saturday and Sunday will be from 6:30am-8:30pm.
• Nurses will be expected to come in early at times to dispense medication on an emergency basis or circumstances which require special medical attention.
• Nurses screen the residents within 24 hours of admission for a general examination and completion of a health and safety medical assessment for each individual.
• Nurses gather all medical information to meet the department 3800 regulations.
• Nurses handle sick calls, medication distribution and conduct a medical examination of any youth following an instance necessitating physical restraint.
• Medical files do get reviewed during the annual department of human services licensing audit and inspection.
• Nurses gather and collect all medical insurance information on each youth.
- Physician coverage
• A licensed physician, certified registered nurse practitioner or licensed physician’s assistant must complete (sign and date) a child health examination for all new admissions within 96 hours of being admitted into the facility.
• The doctor shall report to the facility a minimum of two times a week preferably, Monday and Thursday to ensure that all youth are being examined by the physician within 96 hours of admission.
• The primary doctor can be made available by phone if needed to discuss unique medical conditions that may become present in the facility.
• Hearing and vision tests and screening shall be performed within thirty (30) days after admission per the department 3800 regulations and licensing requirements.
- Pharmacy
• Pharmacy to provide all services to the facility is imperative.
• This is predominately used to fill or obtain prescription medication as ordered.
- Mental health services
• The physician shall visit the youth center at least twice a week and nurses shall be available every day to attend to the medical needs of the residents.
• Prescription medication shall only be administered by medical personnel if emergency medical attention becomes necessary, immediate arrangements shall be made to transport the resident to an approved emergency medical provider designated by the county.
• Maintain relationships with appropriate pediatric and emergency healthcare providers, including hospital and other facilities approved by the county.
