The vendor required to provide pharmacy consultation for tuberculosis medications and to assist with the ordering and procurement of tuberculosis medications for the twenty-four (24) departments.
- Clinical pharmacy consultation services:
• Implement established medication ordering protocols
• Annually review and update medication ordering protocol with department center and prevention input and as needed.
• Respond to consultation requests from center nurse and physician consultants within 2 business days
• Inform center nurse consultants of consultation requests coming directly from department staff, center physicians and outside providers at the time of the request as appropriate.
• Provide information on medications used to treat tuberculosis e.g., resistance, drug interactions, adverse effects, and patients with comorbidities as requested by clinicians and department
• Participate in education and training of the local health departments and other community partners in collaboration with department minimum once per year.
• Provide clinical assistance and oversight with medication operations.
• Ensure that invoices for clinical pharmacy work are submitted on a quarterly basis to center for payment.
• Annually review with the center and school of pharmacy teams the statement of work and modify it, if necessary, in collaboration with center program and consultant staff.
- Medication ordering and operations
• Will notify center consultant staff if concerns arise over inconsistencies in ordering practices of a department based on inventory reports and established ordering history.
• Coordinate with center to inform local health departments of medications in department inventories that are due to expire within 4 months in a quarterly report, to include the estimated cost of these medications.
• Work with center and local health departments to procure tb medications on a monthly basis for first-line drugs.
• Utilize state contract for medication through center to procure tb medications.
• Ensure medication invoices are checked with orders, processed, and sent to center for payment twice a month.
• Obtain specialty and alternative antibiotics for tb treatment when needed as outlined in the specialty medication protocol.
• Provide for compounding of medications and special drug formulations if required
• Maintain routine communication with appropriate center staff in regard to clinical and operational management services, to include monthly update calls.
• Coordinate with center on an annual basis to ensure 340b public health pricing has been secured for all 24 md local health departments and center.
