RFP Description

The vendor is required to provide psychiatric services for the county jail inmate population to include but not limited to the following:
• Provider shall be licensed to practice medicine in the state and board certified in psychiatric services.
• Provider will perform according to the regularly accepted standards of medical care in the state and the state commission on jail standards.
• Provider shall be physically present in the jail infirmary and or housing unit to provide psychological services every week for a minimum of 8 hours. in addition, provider must also be available to virtually attend chapter 574, state, court-ordered psychoactive medication hearings as scheduled by the court.
• Provider will provide out-patient psychiatric attention to all inmates requiring such attention.
• These psychiatric services shall include, but are not limited to, follow-up on all lab tests and all inmates who have had psychiatric attention outside of the jail infirmary.
• Provider will be under no obligation to provide inpatient care, hospitalization or specialty services which are beyond provider’s expertise.
• Provider shall prescribe medication per the sheriff’s office’s defined psychotropic medication formulary.
• Any deviation from the formulary must be granted permission by the sheriff’s office prior to prescribing non-formulary medication.
• The formulary can be best defined as “a written list of prescription and nonprescription medications that are ordinarily available to authorized prescribers, including consultants, working for the facility.”
• Provider shall develop and write standing orders for use by the jail staff in the handling of the psychiatric needs of the inmates.
• Provider shall utilize the EMR (electronic medical record) system provided by county.
• All inmates must have a medical record which is always kept up to date.
• All procedures concerning the confidentiality of medical records shall adhere to all health insurance Portability and accountability act (HIPAA) regulations and applicable federal and state law.
• Provider will coordinate care with the contracted medical director and county jail medical supervisor.
• Provider shall be available for phone consultation by jail staff at any time 24 hours/365 days a year.
