The vendor is required to provide to research workforce development evaluation consulting services to conduct an assessment of agency grant projects which have defined workforce development goals as well as certain grant projects which have informal workforce training outcomes that support the growth of the life science ecosystem in state.
- The study must identify achievements and results among the following research grant projects:
• Research training projects that develop the skills and expertise of pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers interested in careers in the area of cancer research as independent investigators who can design and lead high-quality, innovative basic, population-based projects, clinical research projects, and translational research projects.
• Early clinical investigator projects that provide cancer physicians within the first five years of an appointment as an assistant professor the ability to acquire additional skills and experience in clinical research and to develop preliminary data for use in preparing applications for future research grant funding.
• Core facility support projects which either provide training and mentorship to high school students, pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers to expand research knowledge and experience among these groups preparing them for a career in research or provide experienced cancer researchers with training and mentorship in biotech entrepreneurship and comprehensive drug development.
• State research excellence in cancer (TREC) projects hiring key research personnel both principal investigators, post-doctoral students, and other laboratory personnel to expand their capabilities and capacity to conduct cancer research.
• Agency scholars with first-time, tenure-track awards who provide opportunities for pre-doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to gain firsthand experience and skills working on research projects with the scholars in their newly established laboratories.
• Product development research grant-funded companies that leverage partnerships with local colleges and universities to provide internship opportunities to pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers in developing cancer therapeutics and devices for use in patients.
