The vendor is required to provide that sheltered instruction model professional development services for our ESL instructional staff on the sheltered instruction observation protocol (SIOP) model.
- This professional development aims to enhance the capacity of our teachers to effectively deliver content instruction to english language learners (ells) while simultaneously promoting their english language development and fostering a school-wide culture of high-quality sheltered instruction
- The selected vendor will provide the following services, with a specific focus on achieving these key outcomes:
• Needs assessment: conduct an initial assessment to determine the current level of SIOP knowledge and implementation among ESL instructional staff, and to identify specific needs related to ell student support.
• Customized training: develop and deliver a comprehensive professional development program on the SIOP model, tailored to the specific needs of board teachers and administrators.
• Training content and outcomes: the training should cover all components of the SIOP model, and provide the following outcomes:
1. Understanding ell needs: explain the general needs of english learners and how the SIOP model can fulfill and support them.
2. High-quality sheltered instruction: promote high-quality sheltered instruction among all teachers.
3. Effective SIOP lessons: learn what an effective SIOP lesson looks like to better observe, evaluate, and provide feedback to teachers; this will include video analysis of model lessons.
4. Administrative support: Discuss the roles that administrators can play in supporting teachers as they implement the SIOP model.
5. Lesson planning: Develop lesson plans with effective content and language objectives to meet the language demands of grade-level content lessons.
6. Vocabulary and language structures: Create activities and routines that meaningfully teach vocabulary and language structures.
7. Interactive activities: Design interactive activities that promote academic language development in content lessons.
8. scaffolding and higher-order thinking: Evaluate classroom lessons for effective scaffolding and higher-order thinking activities that promote student learning strategies.
9. Video lesson analysis: Evaluate video lessons for pacing, differentiation, and other SIOP features.
• Practical application: Include opportunities for teachers to practice SIOP strategies through lesson planning, modeling, peer feedback, and video analysis.
• Ongoing support: Provide follow-up support to teachers, including coaching, observation, and resource development.
• Materials and resources: develop and provide all necessary training materials, resources, and tools.
• evaluation: Develop and implement an evaluation plan to measure the effectiveness of the professional development program, including teacher growth and student outcomes.
• Reporting: Provide regular progress reports and a final evaluation report to the board.
• Location: Training should be provided at a board designated location.
