The Vendor is required to provide to assist in managing all aspects of the WorkSafeBC (WSBC) claim appeals process.
- Employs more than 18,000 faculty and staff.
- Human resources department is comprised of various specialized teams that provide a wide range of support and services for those employees.
- The WSBC claims associate is notified of a reportable incident through the university’s centralized accident incident reporting system (CAIRS) or through notification on WSBC’S online portal.
- A third-party provider would manage all types of reconsiderations and/or reviews at the review board and WCAT (e.g. relief of cost, claim entitlement, etc.)
- The majority of university’s claims occur in departments with higher physically demanding jobs like trades, facilities, custodial, food services, security and child care.
- These may include claims related to bullying & harassment and claim entitlement issues.
- This occurs rarely, with an estimate of 1 appeal managed internally in 2024.
- Monitor auto-adjudicated claims for inappropriate approvals that should be appealed, and advise the WSBC claims associate in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain effective communication channels with universities, which may include members of central human resources teams, including employee and faculty relations.
- Demonstrate cost saving to the university by providing bi-annual reports of appeal and cost relief decisions, including metrics demonstrating return on investment.
- Conduct follow up calls and written correspondence to WSBC regarding the university’s concerns regarding claims, including relief of cost.
