A government agency in Ontario issued “Transit Data Visualization and Analysis Tools” (RFP). Solicitation SYS-2492 closed on October 15, 2025. Eligibility: Only for Canada Organization.
The Vendor is required to provide for the development and implementation of transit data analysis and visualization tools, with a particular focus on transit service planning and scheduling.
- These tools will be utilized to visualize, analyze, and interpret various aspects of transit data, to inform improvements to transit service plans, schedules, operational efficiency, customer experience, and data-driven decision-making.
- Solution should provide intuitive and interactive interfaces that enable users to assess historical performance and communicate transit information effectively.
- The primary objectives of this project are:
• Provide intuitive and interactive data visualization capabilities that offer dynamic insights into transit operations and performance.
• Enable real-time monitoring of transit operations with a 30 second ping rate or better, including vehicle locations, schedules, ridership data and performance metrics with an 'up-time' of 99% (or strategically scheduled downtimes).
• Provide analytical capabilities and use statistical methods to identify trends, patterns, and recommended areas for operational improvements within the transit network.
• Enhance communication and transparency by presenting transit data in a user-friendly format suitable for both internal stakeholders, decision-makers and the general public.
• Support multimodal transit analysis to improve service planning, optimize routes, and enhance inter-agency coordination.
- Design & Development
• Develop a web-based solution with a responsive and accessible user interface.
• Design and implement interactive dashboards, maps, charts, and analytical reports that display key transit data metrics in an intuitive manner.
- Data Integration
• Integrate with existing transit data sources across multiple board periods, including:
o GTFS (general transit feed specification) static and real-time feeds.
o CAD/AVL systems for vehicle locations and movements compatible with ineo/equans systems.
o APC (automated passenger counts) stop level boarding and alighting data from the CAD/AVL system.
• Ensure compatibility with open data formats, APIS, and third-party transit management tools.
- Analysis & Visualization Tools
• Provide real-time and historical data visualization with time-series analysis.
• Provide configurable interactive maps showing vehicle locations, stop information, and route on-time performance.
• Implement customizable filters and search functions for granular data exploration.
• Enable data drill-down capabilities for in-depth service analysis and reporting.
- Scheduling Data Analysis & Visualization Requirements
• System-wide on-time performance (OTP) analysis, including OTP breakdown by:
o Route
o Block
o Trip
o Time of day
o Timing point
• On-time departure tracking for the next trip to enhance service reliability.
• Runtimes analysis, comparing scheduled vs. Observed runtimes by:
o Route and variant
o Hour
o Day type (weekday, Saturday, Sunday, holiday)
• Dwell times analysis by stop and timing point to assess service efficiency.
• System-generated recommended runtimes based on historical data and statistical methods, including:
o Analysis of potential OTP impact if recommended runtimes are implemented.
o Comparisons between current and recommended runtimes to evaluate improvements.
o Ability to adjust the percentile (50-90%) of the observed runtime to generate a suggested runtime report.
o Recommended runtimes displayed by:
• Between individual timing points
• Cumulative trip runtime
- Additional Planning and Scheduling Data Insights
• Ability to easily modify data aggregation variables, for example: excluding or including trips that had their preceding trip cancelled/missed to accurately determine if more scheduled capacity is required.
• Visualization of data integrity pertaining to collection sources, for example: reporting the APC (average passenger counter) % of availability by block, which supports planning in identifying missing data points.
• Customizable reporting capabilities with geo-spatial visualization, for example: visualizing trips to plot ridership patterns on non-fixed route services.
• Load analysis reports should include the following datasets and inputs, but not limited to: day type, time of day, number of passengers, vehicle capacity, block, route frequency, number of samples, time-distance (scheduled vs observed), and exclusion of specific data if needed.
- Accessibility and Usability
• Ensure cross-platform compatibility for desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.
• Support multiple browsers including chrome, edge, Firefox, and safari.
- Contract Period/Term: 1 year
