- Translation is defined as expressing written words from a source language into written words of a target language, retaining the original meaning. The Contractor usually completes these services from their own place of business. In some cases, it may involve transcribing from a video or audio electronic file.
- Transcription Services: Transcription is defined as the act of making a written, printed, or typed copy of words that have been spoken.
- Interpretation is defined as accompanying a speaker by interpreting spoken words from one language to another in order to make spoken words understood by a group, audience, individual on the telephone, through video, in a meeting room, or at a gathering of many people.
- American Sign Language or ASL is defined as those services which bridge the communication gap between those who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing and those who cannot use their lips, hands, arms, fingers and facial and body expressions to interpret a spoken language into Sign Language.
- The sign language interpreter will be interactively involved with campus staff, on–site and off-site, to provide direct assistance and support to the students and individuals. Their role will include the following but will not be limited to:
• Simultaneous interpretation;
• Sign language interpretation between the student and campus staff during school hours;
• Sign language interpretation between the student and coach/sport officials after school hours;
• Sign language interpretation between the community and campus staff at community meetings during and after school hours
• Sign language interpretation for employees at any meeting or District event Assignments longer than 1.5 hours of non-stop American Sign Language (ASL) will require a team of interpreters to ensure ASL interpreters avoid a Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI).
• Prerecorded ASL interpretation services for District-produced videos, including picture-in-picture ASL interpretation synchronized with the original audio and visual content
