The Vendor is required to provide emergency medical services (EMS) contracts with a doctor to medical director services on an annual basis.
- EMS medical director works closely with the EMS administrator and provides critical medical guidance regarding pre-hospital medical care and transport of the sick and injured.
- Requirement:
• Be responsible for providing medical oversight for all aspects of patient care to ensure EMS consistently provides care that meets or exceeds best practice standards.
• This duty includes credentialing of emergency medical technicians, advanced emergency medical technicians, and paramedics.
• The EMS medical director works closely with the EMS administrator to manage concerns with the performance of EMS staff and will have the responsibility and authority to suspend or de-credential any EMS personnel and to report incidents to the department.
• Be responsible for the establishment, implementation, and modification of EMS protocols for the field practice of medicine, including but not limited to pre-hospital care, patient triage, transport, transfer, dispatch, extrication, rescue, and radiotelephone/telemetry communications, as well as any clinical quality improvement initiatives.
• Inspect, evaluate, and approve all EMS equipment and supplies such as medications, cardiac monitors, extrication equipment, and intravenous solutions.
• Continually audit, review, and critique EMS activities of both basic and advanced levels of county EMS personnel, which may include conducting regular meetings for case review and leading unscheduled as well as routine evaluations of EMS ambulances, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
• Establish and monitor field performance standards and training standards for EMS personnel.
• This duty includes assisting with recertification requirements for EMS personnel and coordinating with the EMS director to ensure compliance with all state licenses.
• Establish and maintain a procedure for receiving, investigating, and addressing complaints related to EMS services cooperatively with county.
