The vendor is required to provide the medical director will oversee and assess the clinical services provided to residents.
- This role ensures medical services are in compliance with regulatory and licensing agencies, such as, but not limited to the department.
- The medical director's duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Participate in administrative decision-making;
• Recommend and approve all policies and procedures pertaining to medical services;
• Consult with the highlands place medical and leadership staff on all complex medical concerns that arise with resident care and treatment;
• Guide the registered nurse (RN) when needed;
• Complete annual chart reviews to ensure compliance with medical documentation;
• Assess individual residents for continued stay within the intermediate care facility (ICF) to ensure the program can meet the needs of the individuals based on their medical condition;
• Review all of the residents’ medications on a quarterly basis, and as needed.
- The medical director shall provide all services customary to their business operations, as requested by agency, including, but not limited to the following:
• Make recommendations for program admission.
• Develop medical plans of care: providing standing orders for medication and treatment.
• Review history and current health care if there are health needs affecting eligibility for placement at the ICF and developmental.
• If needed, will provide 24 hour a day on call services to program if other emergency services are unavailable.
• Participate in quarterly reviews, updates of individual service plans, other services as mutually agreed upon by the licensed provider(s) and agency.
• Serve as a member of the specially constituted committee
• Participate in the interdisciplinary team process for each individual.
• Promptly submit reports, individual service plan (ISPs), progress notes, and other required documentation as required by agency policies and procedures.
• Agency shall have exclusive ownership and control over all reports, plans, notes, and other documentation created or stored in connection with the services rendered by the medical director under the agreement.
• The medical director shall have access to these documents as permitted by applicable law and as necessary to fulfill their obligations under the agreement.

• The medical director shall have the exclusive authority to make clinical decisions within their designated responsibilities and such decisions must align with all applicable regulations, standards of care, and contractual obligations.
• Operational decisions such as substituting personnel or modify work schedules are made in conjunction with the assistant director of the division, or the director of agency in the absence of the assistant director.
• All staffing changes, assignments, or coverage modifications must be communicated to the assistant director of the division or the director of agency in a timely manner.
• The medical director shall not make unilateral decisions that fall outside the agreed-upon scope of responsibility or affect broader administrative or financial obligations without prior approval from the director of agency.
