The Vendor is required to provide medical services related to pre-employment, fitness-for-duty and return-to-work evaluations, and other assessments, hereinafter referred to as “firm(s),” “provider(s),” or “consultant(s).”
a. Pre-employment medical examinations
• General physical assessment
• Audio screening
• Drug screening (regulated and non-regulated, including breath alcohol testing and rapid screening)
• Tuberculosis (TB) screening test
• If TB test results are positive, a chest x-ray will be required for further evaluation prior to hire
• Any additional screenings as requested by the department
b. Public safety pre-employment evaluations
• In-depth physical fitness testing
• Additional job-specific functional capacity testing, as required to determine suitability for the physical demands of the position
c. Psychological or behavioral health evaluations
• The city may request psychological assessments for fitness-for-duty and return-to-work situations on an as-needed basis.
• Providers must be able to conduct such evaluations or refer the city to qualified, credentialed professionals experienced in municipal and safety-sensitive roles.
d. Medical clearance evaluations, fitness-for-duty, and reasonable accommodation assessments
• Employees returning from medical leave (including workers’ compensation)
• Fitness-for-duty assessments, including behavioral and psychological evaluations when applicable
• Reasonable accommodation requests under the American with disabilities act (ADA) and state fair employment and housing act (FEHA)
1. Demonstrate clear and timely documentation outlining:
• Whether the employee is cleared for full duty, modified, duty, or is not cleared
• Recommended restrictions or accommodations
• Any follow-up evaluation needs.
