The Vendor is required to provide a professional background investigation firm to complete comprehensive background checks for police officer candidates.
- Background checks must include the following:
• Personal Identification & Records
o Valid driver’s license and driving history (suspensions, accidents, DUIs)
o Social Security verification
o Proof of country citizenship or legal residency
o Criminal history (federal, state, and local databases)
o Fingerprinting (state and FBI)
o Sex offender registry check
o Outstanding warrants
• Employment & Education Verification
o Prior employment history (dates, performance, reason for leaving)
o Military service records (DD-214, discharge status if applicable)
o Education verification (high school diploma, college transcripts, certifications)
o Prior law enforcement training (academy graduation, POST certification)
• Financial & Civil Records
o Credit history and debt-to-income review (responsibility indicators)
o Bankruptcy filings, foreclosures, or garnishments
o Civil court records (lawsuits, restraining orders, etc.)
• Character & Lifestyle Evaluation
o References (professional, personal, community)
o Neighborhood checks (interviews with neighbors, community members)
o Social media and online presence review
o History of drug or alcohol use (including prescription misuse)
o Polygraph examination (if required by agency policy)
• Professional/Legal Compliance
o Past or pending disciplinary actions with other agencies
o Compliance with POST/academy eligibility standards
o Firearm ownership/possession eligibility (per federal and state law)
