The vendor required to provide geotechnical investigation, material testing, quality assurance, quality control and excess soils tracking on an as-and-when required basis.
- Geotechnical investigation
1. General requirements
• Supply all labor, equipment and materials, necessary to complete the soil borings, including packaging and delivery of samples and submission of reports as specified herein.
• Arrange for stake out of all underground utilities and obtain the necessary permits prior to commencing work.
• The work plans are to be reviewed by the city project manager prior to commencement of work to determine if any alterations to the work plan are required.
• A final and revised work plan will be submitted.
• Commence work as soon as possible after receipt of notification of acceptance of the proposal and complete the work within the time indicated in the proposal.
• Determine, by personal examination, the nature and location of the work to be encountered and the character of equipment and facilities needed during the execution of the work.
• Continuously employ enough competent workers experienced in soil and rock drilling and sampling on any one boring machine while maintaining traffic in accordance with the latest edition.
• The consultant shall provide for each borehole three tie-in measurements from permanent structures in the vicinity, with offset from curb lines.
2. Commencement of work and carrying out test drilling
• The consultant shall commence the test drilling or make test pits at whatever location or locations the project manager may direct.
• No part of the work shall be undertaken without written orders from the project manager.
• The project manager reserves the right to change the number, location and depth of the test borings or pits before or during the work.
• These changes will be handled as additions or deductions to estimated quantities and paid at the unit rates identified in the proposal.
• The judgement of the project manager, the work is not being executed in a safe manner and in strict conformity with the contract, or if the work is not progressing continuously and in such a manner as to ensure its completion within the time stipulated in the work plan, the project manager may take the work or any part not completed from the consultant and have it completed by others.
3. Piezometer installation
• Piezometers (if required) are installed in boreholes that are not dry upon completion of drilling. water inside a borehole should be pumped out before a piezometer is installed prior to backfilling.
• The consultant should return to the site to record the free-standing ground water level inside the borehole after 24 hours.
• Each piezometer assembly shall include a proper piezometer tip, an appropriate length plastic tubing of 12.7 mm outside diameter, couplings, and protective plastic caps.
4. Site maintenance, cleaning and monitoring well abandonment
• Obtain project manager approval prior to erection of any temporary structures that may be necessary to accommodate the work.
• Maintain all such structures clean and free from nuisance to the satisfaction of the city.
• Provide, erect and maintain all requisite barriers and fences, or build proper protection, provide, keep and maintain watchperson and warning lights as specified by the city, to ensure safety to the public as well as those engaged on or about the work, without further order or expense.
• Upon completion of the work, remove all piping, temporary structures, garbage and waste materials and restore ground surface to its previous conditions
- Material testing, quality assurance and quality control
• The consultant will be notified by telephone or email, twelve (12) hours in advance to arrange for field tests and to pick up field samples.
• Testing personnel shall report to the city before beginning site work and pick up a completed time slip from the city before leaving the site.
• Testing personnel shall verbally inform the city of field test results to notify of any recommendations or suggestions and conclusions, including doubtful and unsatisfactory results immediately after performing a field test or inspection and before leaving the site.
• Unsatisfactory tests should be noted as well as retests which are required or carried out.
• The above reports in final format with a covering letter for periods of two weeks and if possible, not later than two weeks from the last test.
• Prepare and submit a final report at the completion of the roadworks associated with a project detailing sub-excavation areas and replacement procedures, if completed and certified backfill when required.
• The consultant shall record detail information about the materials being tested and the location from where the test was performed or the materials were picked up.
