The Vendor is required to provide the medical advisor shall comprehensive medical consultation, clinical oversight, regulatory guidance, and programmatic advisement in support of the district’s school health services.
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Consult on an ongoing basis with the director and assistant director of student services and school nursing supervisor(s), and meet with school administrators at least annually.
• Plan, review, evaluate, and recommend revisions to the district’s school health program in collaboration with district leadership and;
• Provide medical guidance to inform the development and revision of nursing protocols for the assessment and management of students’ health care needs and;
• Provide recommendations regarding appropriate health facilities, equipment, and related resources necessary to support the effective delivery of school health services.
• Review individual student health records as required and;
• Provide medical direction to district leadership and school personnel regarding the in-school management of student medical conditions, including issues related to health exemptions, outplacement considerations, requests for homebound instruction, and other medically related educational matters and;
• Issue and review standing orders for medications and medical treatments, as appropriate.
• Provide consultation to support planning and placement teams (PPT) and section 504 teams when student medical conditions interface with educational programming and participate in meetings when appropriate.
• Participate in school health-related committees and collaborative initiatives, including the school wellness committee or health councils.
• Support in the planning and implementation of the health education curriculum as needed.
• Contribute to continuing education and in-service programs for school health nurses and other relevant personnel.
• Consult on environmental health concerns within the school system in collaboration with local public health officials and school nursing personnel.
• Respond to requests for medical consultation from the local or regional board of education, as needed and;
• Interpret and support communication of the district’s school health program and related policies to parents, community members, media, other physicians, and;
• Serve as liaison to state officials, local or regional health departments, and relevant professional organizations, including but not limited to the American academy of pediatrics (AAP), the American academy of family physicians (AAFP), their state chapters, and the state AAP school health committee.
• Participate in and provide advisement regarding the development, review, and updating of district and school health policies, regulations, procedures, processes, and protocols, including but not limited to the immunization program, medication administration, food allergy management, indoor air quality, and the district wellness plan, to ensure alignment with applicable local, regional, state, and federal statutes and guidelines.
