The Vendor is required to provide pharmaceutical services for include:
1. Pharmacy operations
• The contractor must ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation bodies, including:
o Board of pharmacy
o Federal drug enforcement administration (DEA)
o Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services (CMS)
o The joint commission
o Drug supply chain security act (DSCSA)
• Provide clinical licensed pharmacists and licensed pharmacy technician to be on site at the hospital during normal business hours
• Must collaborate with contracted vendors for supply management, equipment use, and medication validation outside regular business hours
2. Distributive functions
• Procuring, repackaging, dispensing, ordering, distributing, and properly storing and disposing of all medications, including NIOSH-listed and hazardous drugs
• Collecting patient-specific information necessary to verify medication orders from hospital computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system to ensure safe medication delivery
• Maintaining all documentation required by regulatory agencies
• Managing inventory effectively, incorporating cost considerations where appropriate
• Overseeing automated dispensing machines (ADMS), including maintenance, monitoring functionality, and restocking as needed.
3. Clinical functions
• Actively participate in patient care, including admission and discharge medication reviews, and document all clinical activities in the electronic health record (EHR)
• Attend interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and patient rounds
• Participate in clinical leadership and medication management meetings
• Ensure clinical pharmacists are highly knowledgeable in the patient population and demonstrate leadership in pharmaceutical care
• Provide medication management support within the EHR and assist medical staff as needed.
4. Quality improvement
• Lead and participate in performance improvement initiatives as required by regulatory agencies
• Collaborate with leadership to monitor and improve medication-related patient safety
• Monitor adherence to protocols for high-risk or specialty medications and report findings to medical staff.
5. Leadership functions
• Chair the pharmacy and therapeutics (P&T) committee
• Attend executive leadership meetings as required
• Lead the antibiotic stewardship program
• Conduct annual reviews of pharmacy policies and procedures, updating and developing new policies as needed in collaboration with leadership
• Participate in emergency preparedness planning
• Oversee all pharmacy operations, including licensure and personnel, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
• Demonstrate strong communication skills and in-depth knowledge of inpatient pharmacy systems.
