The vendor is required to provide for education on resource conservation and environmental services for the county.
- The goal of this program is to support the county’s schools as they evolve into “green schools” that model wise resource use, eliminate waste, reduce non-point source pollution and train students to conserve scarce resources like energy and water.
- The program provides both in-class and school-wide presentations, educational assemblies and technical assistance to member schools.
- Recycling and waste reduction
• Develop classroom instructional programs and assembly presentations focusing on recycling, reducing waste and stopping pollution.
• Curriculum will include waste reduction at both home and school, and will stress the importance of food waste reduction and composting.
• Curricula and presentations will expand to include broader topics in waste reduction and pollution as appropriate for various grade levels.
• In cooperation with county staff, green waste recovery and the green business program, contractor will work with school and district staff to improve waste reduction efforts.
- Litter, marine debris, and beach or waterway cleanup events
• This component is intended to include programs within the county of on: litter; plastics; plastic bags; cigarette butts; marine debris; clean beaches; beach, river, and creek cleanups; etc. consultants may submit a proposal for all programs including: education and prevention programs and litter and debris removal programs.
- Pesticide education
• This component includes programs to educate participating schools on pesticides, herbicides, and garden and landscaping practices in order to reduce storm water pollution.
- Resource conservation presentation
• The agency represents elementary, junior and high schools. presentations may be on the following topics: watershed issues; watershed to the sea impacts and concepts; marine debris; storm water pollution prevention; pollutant pathways; healthy waterways; clean rivers, ocean, and beaches; river or marine ecology; local marine or aquatic species; riparian and wetlands habitats; and environmental protection and resource conservation including water and energy, waste reduction, recycling, composting, pollution prevention and climate change.
- Waterways, watersheds, and water quality
• This component includes education to schools on issues such as: water quality, storm water pollution prevention and watershed awareness, and also, students, staff and parental involvement in stream bed degradation, habitat or waterway restoration, etc. consultants may submit proposals for programs related to one or more of the below items:
a. Stewardship programs
b. Watershed education or healthy watersheds
c. Clean waterways
d. River, creeks and streams education, protection, and restoration
- Other programs
• This component allows consultants to submit proposals for programs that do not fall into any of the above categories.
• Topics may include, but are not limited to, the following: general storm water education; storm water pollution prevention; storm water emerging pollutants; energy conservation and related environmental education.
• The county reserves the option to fund or not fund some or all of these items in fiscal year 2025-2026.
