The Vendor is required to provide crossing guard services at sites designated by the city in consultation with district 87 and unit 5 school districts.
- Firm will monitor, supervise, and ensure the safety of children using intersections and crosswalks while traveling to and from school zones.
- Services include:
• Responsible for recruitment, hiring and terminating, and disciplining crossing guard employees.
• Responsible for ensuring any candidates for a crossing guard position meet minimum standards to meet the physical demands of the job of a crossing guard employee.
• Responsible for ensuring that crossing guards are able to read, write, speak the English language and must be able to write intelligible reports.
• IF the crossing guard location is in a neighborhood with a concentration of residents who speak a language other than English, preference shall be given to employing a crossing guard who speaks that language also.
• Ensure any hired candidate for crossing guard is at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Ensure any hired candidates for crossing guard have the ability to remain calm and use judgment and initiative in an emergency situation.
• Ensure that all crossing guards have basic first aid certification.
• Ensure that crossing guards maintain a method of contacting emergency services on their person during their work hours.
• Confirm employment eligibility through e-verify.
• Provide crossing guard services at the designated hours on all days by the designated schools in the city are in session.
• Provide the city a crossing guard assignment schedule once a year by July 15th to reflect the regular school year.
• The city will compensate up to a maximum of three (3) hours per guard for each location when the crossing guard works the same location in both the morning and afternoon.
• Should the hours for the crossing guard services exceed the maximum, the firm must obtain prior approval from the city. • Maintain adequate reserve personnel to provide alternate crossing guards if a crossing guard fails to report for work at the assigned time and location.
• Post the replacement immediately after learning of an unstaffed location.
• Expected to assure and enforce safety and Proper Street crossing of school children in accordance with the schedule for each school.
