The vendor is required to provide to perform traffic data collection services for the city.
- Bicycle and pedestrian movements are also to be recorded.
- The pedestrian movements will be recorded as the number of pedestrians crossing each intersection approach.
- While conducting manual turning movement counts, proper procedures are essential for attaining accurate results.
- Manual counts are to be taken for a minimum of 1-hour periods and accumulated by 15 minute increments so that the peak hour can be identified.
- While many turning movement counts are to be performed during traditional weekday am and pm peak traffic periods, additional peak periods such as noon and weekend counts may be required as necessary.
- Intersections, numbers 1-50, as listed in table 1, shall be counted yearly. whereas, the intersections, numbers 51- 130, are split into 2 groups in table 1a and 1b and shall be counted on a two year cycle, with one-half of the locations being counted each year.
- Data is to be collected and entered into the city’s approved excel template and delivered as a pdf, approved by the city before submitting.
- Counts shall be conducted for a minimum of a 48-hour time period, and typically taken Tuesday through Thursday to reflect typical weekday travel patterns, with some weekend counts required as necessary.
- Monitoring frequency shall be over a two year cycle with one-half of the locations being classified and counted per year.
- Monitoring sessions will be for at least 48 hours to account for the changes in vehicle mix from day to day.
- Data for less than 24 continuous hours is not acceptable.
- At locations where vehicle class is not consistent throughout the week, such as on weekends, count duration longer than 48 hours may be necessary to determine appropriate days to count and to accurately represent average vehicle class data.
- Occasionally on an on-call basis, the city may have need for both directional volume counts and speed data collection performed by using hose counters for its arterial, collector, and local segments.
- Data shall be collected for a minimum of a 48-hour time period, and typically taken Tuesday thru Thursday to reflect typical weekday travel patterns, with some weekend counts required as necessary.
- A retainer will be held in the city’s budget for these additional traffic data collection services that the city may have.
