1. Trademark and licensing audit
• Inventory of all existing trademarks, service marks, wordmarks, logos, and brand assets (registered, pending, and unregistered)
• Review of current filings, statuses, and classifications
• Identification of gaps in trademark protection (e.g., missing classes, unregistered marks, geographic limitations)
• Assessment of current licensing program (if any), including agreements, royalty structures, and vendor participation
• Benchmarking against peer institutions and industry best practices
2. Risk assessment and legal alignment
• Identification of infringement risks and unauthorized use of university marks.
• Evaluation of current enforcement practices and cease-and-desist processes
• Coordination framework with the office of general counsel
• Recommendations for strengthening trademark protection and enforcement protocols
3. Brand and asset alignment
• Evaluation of how existing marks are used across digital, print, merchandise, and partnerships
• Identification of inconsistencies between brand standards and actual usage
• Recommendations for rationalizing and prioritizing marks for protection and licensing
• Guidance on proper use of trademarks within the university’s brand architecture
4. Licensing program development
• Design of a structured licensing program, including categories (e.g., merchandise, partnerships, internal use)
• Recommendations for licensing policies, procedures, and governance
• Development of standard licensing agreement templates
