- Statutory and rulemaking authority
• Draft, review, and propose amendments to statutes and administrative rules within the jurisdiction of the board.
• Advocate for legislative initiatives and provide testimony before legislative committees to ensure that statutory and regulatory provisions remain current, legally sound, and consistent with the education and regulation of the professions.
- Board leadership and governance
• Provide executive leadership and direction to promote continuity, accountability, and efficiency in board operations.
• Advise the board on statutory and regulatory matters, investigations, disciplinary actions, and other issues pertinent to the board’s duties.
• Collaborate with the board to establish strategic goals, operational priorities, and performance objectives.
• Coordinate, facilitate, and document board meetings; ensure implementation of board directives and decisions.
• Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with government agencies, professional organizations, and other stakeholders to advance the mission of the board.
- Licensure, registration, and permitting oversight
• Administer the licensure, registration, and permitting processes in accordance with applicable statutes and administrative rules to ensure that only qualified persons and entities are approved.
• Review and prepare for approval all initial and credential verification applications for dentists, dental hygienists, registered dental assistants, radiographers, and dental entities.
• Oversee the criminal background check process, including the lawful retention and destruction of records in compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Continuing education administration
• Administer and enforce all continuing education requirements as established by statute and rule.
• Review and approve continuing education course submissions for compliance with established standards.
• Maintain and update the electronic continuing education database and website module.
• Administer and publish the official continuing education calendar.
• Conduct annual continuing education audits to verify compliance by licensees and registrants.
- Fiscal management and oversight
• Oversee all fiscal and budgetary activities of the board to ensure lawful management of public funds.
• Monitor collection, deposit, and reconciliation of board revenues.
• Administer and verify online renewal system financial transactions.
• Approve vouchers and authorize expenditures in accordance with budgetary controls and fiscal policy.
• Prepare financial statements, reports, and budgets for submission to the department.
• Maintain fiscal records and ensure adherence to established budget parameters.
• Prepare and submit annual statistical and fiscal reports to the department.
• Negotiate and manage contracts for investigators, legal counsel, and other professional service providers.
• Ensure compliance with state fiscal protocols for purchasing, reimbursements, travel, and administrative procedures.
- Complaint, investigation, and disciplinary oversight
• Administer the complaint, investigation, and disciplinary processes in accordance with statutory authority, administrative rule, and due process requirements.
• Maintain a secure and confidential complaint database.
• Provide oversight and coordination for investigations, including collaboration with investigators, legal counsel, and board representatives.
• Coordinate meetings of investigative committees and ensure accurate recordkeeping of proceedings.
• Evaluate investigative and disciplinary procedures and recommend improvements to ensure compliance and fairness.
• Organize and manage informal proceedings and formal disciplinary hearings in accordance with administrative procedures.
• Administer, monitor, and enforce compliance with disciplinary orders or agreements issued by the board.
• Ensure adherence to all federal and state reporting obligations and respond to audit requirements.
• Serve as a subject matter resource in complaint and disciplinary proceedings.
- Technology and systems administration
• Manage and oversee updates to the board’s information technology systems to ensure accuracy, security, and efficiency of operations.
• Maintain and update the board’s official website to ensure public accessibility and transparency.
• Evaluate, recommend, and implement technological improvements that enhance the board’s ability to serve the public and licensees.
