Legal Assistance Services

The Vendor is required to provide legal assistance program provides legal advice and assistance to adults aged 60 and older and adults with disabilities.
- Phone consultation:
• Legal advice and assistance over the phone to individuals that meet program criteria.
• Available to respond to inquiries during business hours (Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm); however, legal research and other duties may be conducted outside of normal business hours.
• Legal advice questions within five business days of the referral.
• Available to provide advice to local ombudsmen and adult protective services staff within two business days.
• Providing consultation and advice over the phone to underserved older adults and how you would balance the requirements of this program with other responsibilities.
- Legal clinics
• Assistance in planning the legal document clinics including selecting site location and recruiting and training legal volunteers.
• Reviewing all documents completed at the legal document clinics including, but not limited to: simple wills, durable powers of attorney, living wills, transfer of death deeds, declarations of homestead, affidavits to terminate joint tenancy and realty transfer certificates.
• Other assistance as necessary, including explaining documents to participants.
- Record keeping and reporting
• Keep accurate and complete records of all client cases assigned to them.
• This includes entering data into the case management software and closing cases according to program guidelines.
• Responsible for responding to inquiries from the legal service developer and AmeriCorps member assisting with assigned cases.
• System for record keeping and responding to and tracking inquiries.
- Legal research
• Responsible for conducting legal research on applicable state, federal and tribal laws on issues that arise during client intakes and the estate planning process.
• Process for conducting legal research.
