Public Defender Services

The Vendor is required to provide qualified attorneys licensed to practice law in state who are interested in providing comprehensive public defense services.
- These services will include, but not be limited to:
• Lawyer services and appropriate support staff services
• Investigation and appropriate sentencing advocacy
• Interviews of clients and potential witnesses
• Legal research
• Preparation and filing of pleadings
• Negotiations with the appropriate prosecutor or other agency and court regarding possible dispositions, and preparation for and appearance at court proceedings including trials.
- The Public Defender shall at all times comply with the Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) and all other applicable court rules. The Public Defender shall maintain the highest standards of conduct and behavior towards the Court, the prosecutor, and all parties.
- The Public Defender will attempt to initiate contact with assigned clients within forty-eight (48) hours of assignment, excluding weekends.
- The Public Defender will provide their clients with contact information for availability during office hours.
- The Public Defender will also return client phone calls or other attempts to contact the Public Defender in a timely manner. Included with proposal will be a communication plan, to be approved by the Court, detailing how the Public Defender will remain responsive to the public, defendants, the City and courts during normal business hours.
