RFP Description

The Vendor is required to provide 3D particle imaging system requirements include:
• Particle size can be between 100 and 25,000 μm
• Particle speeds up to 200 m/s
• Particle types can be dust and snow particles, as well as water drops (possible mixed phase conditions)
• Provide 3D X, Y, and Z locations of the particle positions within the instrument’s field of view to within 100 um
• Provide 3D images of droplets ice crystals
• Instrumentation must withstand pressure range from 0.01 to 15 psia
• Instrumentation must withstand high humidity
• Instrumentation must withstand temperature range from 30 to 95oF
• Provide remote control of the imaging system and image acquisition
• Record images for 2 to 3 minutes at greater than 100 fps
• CMOS digital camera with 4200 by 2160 pixels (9 Mpix)
• Pixel size 2.5 X 2.5 µm
• Particle shadow Image depth quantization 256 gray levels
• Field of View 130 mm by 60 mm
• Working distance – front of optics enclosure to particle field – 300mm
• Airtight ruggedized camera enclosure
• LED Light Panel illumination, 256 LED’s, 250 mm by 110 mm, wavelengths blue and red, airtight enclosure, pulses durations as short as 100 ns.
• Airtight ruggedized enclosure
• Electronics and software control system of illumination intensity and pulse durations
• Trigger system to synchronize with ice cloud release
• Electronics to provide 8 modes of operation:
1. Free running
2. Camera mode – TTL signal generated by camera
3. External mode – allows synchronizing camera with ice cloud release
4. Camera mode with delay – camera TTL signal delayed by selectable amount
5. External mode with delay – pulse from release of sample is delayed by selectable amount
6. Double pulse mode – software selectable pulse separation for PTV particle velocity measurements
7. Trigger mode – imaging pulse is generated when a particle is detected
• System control software for complete remote controlled automated setup of the system parameter
• Automated LED illumination control software
• Image processing software to detect and validate particle images, merge orthogonal images into 3D space, resolve 3D particle images
• Generate particle size and concentration information, display measured results in histogram form, and compute integral quantities (mean diameters, number density, and total water content)
• Provide methods to estimate ice crystal mass based on 3D image morphology
• Provide a camera calibration system for 3D imaging
• Provide training at customer site.
