The vendor is required to provide reliable, professional, and accurate oral and written interpretation and translation primarily from English to Spanish and occasionally from Spanish to English; interpretation services sought are primarily oral, although written translation and interpretation may be required on occasion.
- Provide interpretation service in both consecutive and simultaneous techniques.
• Consecutive interpreting: rendering of speech from one language to another, using a turn-taking approach.
• Simultaneous interpreting: rendering of speech from one language to another at the same time it is being spoken.
- Simultaneously interpret city council and planning commission meetings and other special meetings and events.
- Provide interpretation for members of the public who wish to provide comments in Spanish during a meeting.
- Provide offsite and virtual interpretation services from time to time.
- Provide oral interpretation via telephone, virtually via a video or audio internet platform (e.g. zoom), or other remote methods as the city needs.
- Provide interpretation for meetings for long periods of time; meetings average 2 – 3 hours but occasionally may go much longer, up to 6 – 7 hours, without advance notice; as part of a proposal, the vendor should clearly state-required working conditions, including the interval and length of rest periods, if needed.
- Occasionally communicate briefly with public speakers and others who desire to use interpretation services.
- Arrive to meetings and other events at least 15 minutes prior to the start time.
- Have the ability to provide interpretation equipment to transmit and receive audible interpretation through equipment ownership or rental.
