The Vendor is required to provide for the purchase of American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services and captioning services in conjunction with the college's needs on an as-needed, when-needed basis.
- Goal to ensure that:
• All students in need of interpreting or captioning services have access to the support they need for all their academic and extracurricular activities while they are enrolled at College; and
• All employees in need of interpreting or captioning services have access to the support they need for their job or job-related activities; and
• All job applicants have access to the support they need during the application process.
- National Certified American Sign Language Interpreter
• American Sign Language interpretation for students, employees, and applicants in need of these accommodations in compliance with Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Interpreter services may be needed for students while they are in class, taking tests at the testing center, and/or participating in extracurricular college activities, which may include clubs, class trips, etc.
- Remote Video Services / Video Relay
• American Sign Language interpretation through a video relay/video interpretation service for students, employees, and applicants in need of these accommodations in compliance with Section 504 of the ADA.
• Video ASL interpreter services may be needed for students while they are in class, taking tests at the testing center, and/or participating in extracurricular College activities, which may include clubs, meetings, etc.
- Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART)
• Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) is nearly verbatim, word-for- word instant translation of spoken words into written text using a stenotype machine or notebook computer and real-time software.
• The text appears instantly on a computer screen so that the deaf or hard of hearing participant may read what is being said. CART services may be required to be performed on-site. The awarded vendor must furnish all equipment necessary to provide this service and must send a text file to the department contact within 24 hours of the end of the event.
- Remote Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART)
• Remote Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) is nearly verbatim, word for-word instant translation of spoken words into written text using a stenotype machine or notebook computer and real time software.
• The text appears instantly on a computer screen so that the deaf or hard of hearing participant may read what is being said. CART services will be performed remotely. The awarded vendor must communicate clear directions with the requesting department/contact and provide a link to access the remote CART text necessary to provide this service.
• The vendor must send a text file to the department contact within 24 hours of the end of the event.
- Interprets American Sign Language (ASL) to English or Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing during classes, tests, meetings with instructors and other faculty or staff members, and extra-curricular activities.
- Interprets or Captions at College functions, which may include evenings and weekends.
- Collaborates with students, faculty, and staff in establishing procedures for in- class signing or captioning.
